I grew up spending my summers on Nøtterøy (pronounced "Nuh-ter-oy"), on the western side of the Oslofjord in Norway, where the svaberg, the smooth glacier-polished rocks that line the Nordic coastline, were a central part of childhood. Worn flat by thousands of years of ice and sea, we swam in the cold water until our lips turned blue, then ran up and lay down on the sun-heated rock to warm ourselves back up. The svaberg were a natural sauna of sorts, a place where the body moved between cold and warmth, but also a favourite place for play and exploration. Verdens Ende (World's End), a protected natural reserve, was not a random choice. The landscape there is a sculpture in itself.
 In making Blue Lips, Warm Rocks I return to these memories through images of young people, photographed both spontaneously and with light direction. The series grows out of concrete memories: play, friendship and the small moments that stay with you from childhood to childhood. On the svaberg, nothing has really changed. Except the climate.
 The images are made in black and white to reinforce a timeless quality, pointing to something enduring: how the traditions, the play and the sense of belonging persist, generation after generation.
